UofT GPA & grade calculator — the official 4.0 scale

This UofT GPA calculator uses the university's official grading scale, in effect since 1998: percentages map to letter grades and grade points on a 4.0 ceiling, and A+ and A are both worth 4.0. Average your courses, convert any mark, and work out what you need on the final.

What do I need on the final?

Enter your grade on everything so far, the final's weight, and your target course grade (pick a letter or type a percent).

  • A+ and A are both worth 4.0 — an A+ looks better on the transcript but doesn't raise the GPA.
  • GPA weighting follows credits: a full-year course counts 1.0, a half course 0.5.
  • Courses taken Credit/No Credit (CR/NCR) are excluded from the GPA entirely.
  • In Arts & Science, good standing needs a cumulative GPA of 1.50 and graduation needs 1.85.
  • The pass mark is 50% in most divisions — but 60% in Dentistry, Medicine and Nursing.

UofT grades — FAQ

Is an A+ worth more than an A at UofT?

Not in your GPA — both are 4.0 on the official scale. The A+ (90–100%) still appears on your transcript and can matter to graduate committees reading it, but the grade-point math treats them identically.

What GPA do I need to stay in good standing at UofT?

In Arts & Science, a cumulative GPA of 1.50 keeps you in good standing, and you need 1.85 to graduate. Falling below 1.50 puts you on academic probation.

How is the UofT GPA calculated?

Each course's letter grade maps to grade points (the table on this page), which are weighted by the course's credit value — 1.0 for a full-year course, 0.5 for a half course — then averaged. CR/NCR courses are left out.

What percentage is a passing grade at UofT?

50% (D-) in most divisions, including Arts & Science and Engineering. Dentistry, Medicine and Nursing set the pass at 60%.
