Queen's grades — FAQ
Is Queen's on a 4.0 GPA scale?
No — Queen's uses a 4.3 scale, where A+ is worth 4.3 grade points. If you're converting a Queen's GPA for an application that assumes a 4.0 ceiling, use that program's own conversion table (OMSAS, for example, publishes one) rather than rescaling it yourself.
What grade do I need to pass a Queen's course?
D- or better in most undergraduate faculties — that's 0.7 grade points, or 50%. Note that some faculties set higher bars: Graduate Studies requires B-, and Medicine and Nursing require C-.
Why doesn't my transcript show my GPA?
Queen's removed the cumulative GPA from official transcripts in January 2014. Your letter grades are the official record; the GPA is computed from them — grade points weighted by course units — which is exactly what the calculator above does.
How do letter grades convert to percentages at Queen's?
By the registrar's table on this page: A+ is 90–100%, A is 85–89%, down to D- at 50–52% and F below 50. When instructors grade individual pieces of work with letters, faculties use fixed conversion numbers (an A is counted as 87%, for instance) to compute the course grade.
